Founder’s wife, Madam Sosamma Lazar was a working woman who saw the need for imparting knowledge to children who did not have the option of attending school, as there were no private schools, back then in 1985. She dedicated her free time to tutoring these students at her home, teaching them English. The living room was the ‘classroom’, with students from varied ethnicities and of varied ages. She worked wonders with the students she tutored, who after her tutoring, were well prepared to take the Ministry Exam pertaining to their age and at the appropriate grade level. Testimony of sheer passion for educating children. In memory of Madam’s passion and dedication, NPE has instituted a scholarship, The Madam Sosamma Lazar 100% Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence, for students pursuing their higher studies in the universities.
